Food I ate in Portland, OR

January 3, 2016

I can’t believe I didn’t think of doing this earlier! I love food and I love trying new food places. Sometimes though, it does take some convincing for me to try certain types of food…but that’s besides the point.

On my trip to Portland, OR I tried as much as I could and I’m telling you the pictures above doesn’t show it all!

1. Broder – 4.5 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Aebeleskiver Danish Pancakes (ball pancakes) with lemon curd and lingonberry jam, Forlorade Agg (lost eggs) on a skillet, and two soft baked eggs (sunny side up eggs on a skillet, walnut toast, and for the side I chose a potato pancake).
My opinion: It looks delicious doesn’t it? But it was a bit lacking for my taste. The only thing that stood out to me was the potato pancake smeared with hot sauce. The Danish pancakes were good too – nice and fluffy.

2. Number 1 Bento – 4 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Bibimbap with chicken
My opinion: You don’t know how excited I was when I found this food truck! I had a killer craving for some bibimbap and for $6.50 a plate? Uh YES PLEASE! This did not disappoint.

3. Island Grill Hawaiian Barbecue – 3.5 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: BBQ Chicken plate
My opinion: The macaroni salad was very salty but that doesn’t hinder the rest of the plate of white rice and BBQ chicken because really, you can’t ever mess that up.

4. Bowery Bagels – 4 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Poppy seed bagel with Smoked Salmon Schmear and the John Fremont bagel (not pictured)
My opinion: When I came here, they were almost sold out of their bagels so the only choices were poppy seed, plain and this other one I don’t quite remember. The John Fremont bagel is their breakfast bagel with sausage, egg and cheese. The bagel is good! I can see why they sold out so fast and early too. Definitely hit this place up as early as you can for a breakfast bagel and coffee/hot chocolate!

5. Lúc Lác – 4 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Shrimp fresh spring roll, Tofu fresh spring roll, Chicken wings, Combination rice plate and Three meat combo Pho
My opinion: It did not taste like authentic Vietnamese food, but it wasn’t bad. I’m actually glad I came here when it was happy hour because then the prices were much more reasonable than their regular menu prices. My rice plate had a lot of meat: pork, shrimp, chicken, and nem nuong (also pork). My chicken was a bit dry, my pork had a bit too much fat, but the nem nuong was perfect. They also had these crispy rolls as well and that was scrumptious. The spring rolls and chicken wings are not worth mentioning but they’re all OK as appetizers. As for the Pho, it was alright. The broth tasted like it came from a packet of seasoning but who knows! I’m spoiled when it comes Pho…my parents take hours to make the broth from scratch!

6. Sake Japanese & Thai Cuisine – 4 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Agedashi tofu, Tonkotsu Ramen, Tom Yum Ramen, and Thai Donuts
My opinion: It was super cold the day I came in here and the hot bowl of ramen? It was absolutely a perfect mesh. Everything here was perfect to the T – from the food to the servce! The Thai donuts were a spontaneous order cause I was stuffed. Even so, the plate was empty after 5 minutes. The dip was condensed milk with peanuts and maybe something else, I am not sure but it was GOOD.

7. Bing Mi – 4.5 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Jian Bing
My opinion: Jian Bings are all they got here at this food truck as that is what they specialize in. It’s a grilled crepe with scrambled egg, black bean paste, chili sauce, pickled vegetables, green onion, cilantro, and a crispy fried cracker. You also get to choose to add extras and how spicy you want it be as well so sausage was added into mine. It was good! Don’t pass this one up cause this is something you can get on your way to shop.

8. Brunch Box – 4 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Double Down with no bacon and on Texas toast
My opinion: If you’re looking for something greasy and something that may give you a heart attack OR food coma, this place is it.

9. Karam Lebanese & Syrian Cuisine – 4.5 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Hummus with pita bread, Lamb Schwarma and Mouajanat
My opinion: Let me tell you service was horrible, but the food was delicious. I was sent into food coma in the middle of this meal and just writing this up makes me want to go back and order twice of it all because it really is that good. I am not a fan of lamb but man…this lamb schwarma blew me away! It was tender and moist with none of that odd smell. The Mouajanat was 2/3 good – the slices with grounded thyme, sesame seeds and oil were way, way too strong. I was not able to get that down my throat at all.

10. Cacao Drink Chocolate – 4.5 star rating on Yelp
Food ordered: Hot chocolate with almond milk
My opinion: Goodness, I am not much of a chocolate person but that hot chocolate was…chocolate. The whole place was packed full of people taking chocolate shots! They also had chocolate from around the world for sale on display as well. I saw their chocolate pieces were priced at $2.50 a piece and they also had chocolate shaped as a squirrel, heart, Buddha, etc. prices ranged from $16 to $60. If you love chocolate, this place is for you.

Not pictured, but worth mentioning: Gyro House, Noodle House, Fresh Roll, and A Thai Basil.

There was so much more food places to try but I just didn’t have enough time. Maybe I’ll come back in Spring for more!

December 28, 2015

2016 is almost here!

That means I haven’t updated for almost 2 months but that doesn’t mean I have forgotten! Luxurious World’s domain expiration date was in November and I remember thinking to myself, I could disappear and no one would know, but I had to shake off that thought. I do not want to be wiped off of this blogging world. I swore I wouldn’t run away so here I am!

An overview of where I’ve been and where I’m at:
I have been busy working, creating my supposedly holiday cards*, coming up with ideas to be my own boss, and organizing myself and my life.

I don’t think I am taking blogging as seriously as I am supposed to. I want to be dedicated to this as much as I am to my Instagram! But then again, Instagram is posting up pictures and I can choose whether or not to caption it. But with blogging? I have to sit down and think about what to write. Perhaps there’s a blogging challenge somewhere? I would love to join so comment below and let me know!

And P.S.
Please excuse my short update post. I have 3 posts lined up to post!!

*To those who I said I will be sending holiday cards will NOT be getting holiday cards. You guys will be receiving more of a ‘hey! I’ve been thinking of you’ and ‘how’s it going’ card. I am hand drawing and coloring BABS the Bear on them still so please be a bit more patient with me!

September 17, 2015

I am a creature of habit and one of my habits is that I can’t stop online shopping. This was one of those weak moments, but on the upside, I think I found my favorite skincare regime. If you guys have not heard of Memebox yet, check them out. They have make up and skincare in which you can get at affordable prices.

So for me, I bought one Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask and one Aloe BHA Skin Toner. Along with my order, I got two samples pictured below:

I’m not too enthusiastic about this Cheese Cream (lactose intolerant here so I kind of find this pretty gross) so I’m not even going to try it. But it was nice of them to include free samples!

World of Coca Cola in Atlanta

September 14, 2015

If you’re a fan of Coca Cola, I definitely suggest this to be one of your stops whenever you’re in Atlanta, Georgia: World of Coca Cola.

At the beginning, you will be entering the building in large groups for the introduction and then after, you will get to tour the place on  your own (or whoever is with you). I think this place took me about 2.5 hours but I was really just walking around and briefly reading snippets here and there.

Along with the introduction, you will be ushered into a theater to watch a Coca Cola celebration of life’s Moments of Happiness and I am telling you I am one of those emotional movie watchers so if you are too, this short video could bring you to tears. After this, you will then be able to go out and explore! There’s exhibits you will be able to walk around, admire, observe and be able to experience Coca Cola’s history, gallery, and its “secret” formula.

When you’re all done with the exploring and hoping you kept the best for last which is the Taste It! area, you will be able to taste all the flavors of Coca Cola throughout the world. How amazing is that?! But let me warn you that some taste like carbonated water to something yucky to some really, really yummy to hey, I know this!

And at the end, you will be able to get your free glass bottle of Coca Cola to bring home with you.

They also got their gift shop which you can go through to see if there’s anything you like.

Overall, this place was fun and it was a nice experience.

September 7, 2015

Goodness gracious, August flew by in a blink of an eye! I’m seriously just sitting here trying to think what happened since the last time I updated my blog, but my mind is drawing a blank so let’s just see where this all goes because this is just going to be a mind dump.

I have titled this entry ‘Troubles’ due to the fact that even though August may have gone by super fast, I did a lot of thinking where I had to reassess my life.

1. Career

It’s hard to admit it, but I am in love with working. I am passionate in whatever it is I put my mind to and it has burned me out countless of times. Although, the start of my work life at 16 wasn’t planned, I’ve gotten used to it – it became a habit.

My goal is to be my own boss some day and at the rate I am going, it could be sooner than later; however, the job that is paying so much right now….I had sent in my resignation letter. I didn’t feel like it was worth it. Sure, I was able to see the world but it wasn’t worth my relationships and it wasn’t worth my health and well-being.

2. Relationships

As I have mentioned above, I put my work life first which damaged not one but two of my relationships. Although my work wasn’t that big of a factor, it did play its part.

The only person that has really been there fore me no matter what is my best friend of 8 years. That is the only relationship I truly put my efforts into. She is my other half and I am beyond happy that she’s there when I need her and there even when I don’t need her! *insert cheesy smile here*

Best friend story: One time on Valentine’s Day, I sent her an email (because she told me not to give her chocolates anymore haha) of a writing piece of mine in which I wrote for her on my Tumblr. I am too much of a coward to show her my full blog, but with this piece, it hits home for the both of us. On that same day, she bought me a plant I wanted with an Iron Man sticker (my fav) and she confessed that what I wrote had her emotional and in tears. I ended up in tears too.

3. Home

There were numerous amounts of times when I said I wanted to move out of my parents’ house but I never did. I had my mind set on it, but when my job had me traveling there wasn’t a point for me to move out since I ended up never being at home anyway.

Now with this new resignation, I am free falling and actively looking for a place. I may officially live in Atlanta or move to Boston and live with a friend or move to Los Angeles with my best friend – I’m not sure yet. I will be physically checking out apartments soon and I’m excited!

4. Love

A week ago, I received a very long email response to my very long email I sent months ago from a dear friend of mine and the inputs she had resonated with me.

When you say “yes” to someone, you should always make sure that you’re never saying “no” to yourself because, at the end of the day, we have no one but ourselves.

This is something she said that I want to share with all of you because it is important for each and every one of us to know this. Read it and let it sink in!

I had every intention of writing out my disappointments and pains from my last relationship and exploit it, but that is not something I will do even when I have every right to. I am simply going to let it go and let him go. I can’t have him haunting and clouding my thoughts when he’s not important in my life anymore. His choices are his choices and what happened, happened. Four months may have passed since the break up and it may have taken me a lot longer than other relationships to let go, but I can say that now is when I’m done.

Fall is here and winter is coming. I’m going to be spending it with those who are still with me despite the odds.
